Adelaide – Farmers’ Market Showground

Of all the places that I’ve visited in Australia, Adelaide is the one that I am most attracted to. Part of it is the cooler climate, part is the similarity to Napa Valley, and part is the Adelaide Central Market. I now need to add the Adelaide Farmers’ Market Showground to that list!

This is a true South Australian Farmers’ Market – there aren’t any stalls that don’t sell food grown, baked, raised, caught, cooked or made by the stallholder. As a genuine farmers’ market, the focus is on providing a food only environment to buy directly from local farmers’ and food producers, there are no stalls selling arts and crafts.

The Farmers’ Market is every Sunday from 8:30-12:30 and on the first Sunday of each month there is also the Gilles at the Grounds a market with stalls selling crafts, vintage & collector items, and food from 9-3.

I was fortunate enough to visit both markets!

It was impossible to take photos that shows how big this market actually is. It is so spread out and has both indoor and outdoor stalls.

The outdoor stalls were a mix of ready to eat savoury dishes, baked goods, fresh produce, and products like honey or tea. There was even a stall devoted to gut health and another with Milk on Tap.

I couldn’t resist buying a lavender brownie and it was delicious!

The indoor stalls were primarily ready to eat food and items that needed refrigeration (like cheese) or would melt in the sun (like chocolate)

I was pleased to see cheese curds and was excited to give them a try! They weren’t very squeaky, but they were tasty!

The cheese curds reminded me of Michigan and then I passed this on the way home:

Maybe I’ll give this a try next time I visit the market!

This was an amazing market and I can’t wait to go again next weekend. If I do end up in Adelaide, this will definitely be a regular Sunday activity for me!
