Brisbane – Bakeries

Brisbane – Bakeries

Brisbane has a bakery that is a pilgrimage for me – Brooki Bakehouse. As I write this, there is a bit of controversy swirling about Brooki Bakehouse and RecipeTinEats, but none of that changes the admiration that I have for the social media savviness that I so admire in Brooke Bellamy. This article has a little more info about her.

The entrance and kitchen that feature in many of her early videos. She now has a much larger kitchen offsite.

The iconic Brooki Bakehouse chocolate chip cookie! It was as good a I had hoped it would be, but at $8AUD per cookie, it is definitely a special treat!

Lune Croissanterie

Lune was my favorite bakery when I visited Melbourne! I was very excited when I saw there was one very close to my Airbnb. I made it my first stop on the morning after I arrived!

I tried the Cheese and Vegemite Escargot. An escargot pastry filled with Vegemite béchamel and gruyère cheese. It was amazing!

Their menu changes monthly and this month they had (from front to back) Choccie Crackle, Almond, Lemon Curd Cruffin, Pepperoni Pizza Escargot, Vegemite & Cheese Escargot, Ham & Gruyere Croissant, Morning Bun, Kouign Amman, Pain Au Chocolat, Croissant

Imagine my surprise, when 2 days later I am walking in South Brisbane and I see Lune sign!

This time I tried the Persian Love Cake. A Mother’s day special. It is a traditional croissant twice-baked with pistachio frangipane and Persian love cake. Finished with rosewater buttercream and dried rose. Also amazing!

One of the things I love about Lune is the industial openness of the kitchen.

Shibusawa Bakery

Shibusawa is a Japanese bakery in the Brisbane CBD that sounded interesting. They have a large selection of pastries and drinks, especially matcha. I got a coconut matcha and a Japanese cheesecake souffle. The matcha was delicious and probably something I’ll try to make at home, but I didn’t care for the cheesecake.

I expected the cheesecake to be light and airy (textures that I associate with a souffle), but instead it was very dense and heavy.

These were the bakeries that I went to during my first week in Brisbane. During my second week we did a bakery tour, visiting 10 bakeries and picking out a selection of sweet and savoury pasteries.
