Sydney, Australia

Sydney is Australia’s biggest and busiest city on par with London, New York and Paris. Its residents are welcoming and friendly. It has everything – a beautiful harbour, sandy beaches, laidback lifestyle, amazing foods, great national parks, and cultural attractions like the Sydney Opera House, numerous theaters, and multitude of comedy and music venues.
During my recent visit, I used my time in Sydney to explore some of it’s cultural attractions.

I saw Guys and Dolls by Handa Opera on Sydney Harbor — this outdoor production was creative and entertaining! The male lead, Sky Masterson, was played by Cody Simpson!
The production was on the Fleet Steps at Mrs Macquaries Point. I arrived early and spent a little time walking around the botanical gardens.

A couple days later, on a rainy day, I decided to go to a movie. During my stay many Australian cinemas were partnering with the Alliance Francaise French Film Festival so I watched a wonderful film called Tous Toque! (or All Stirred Up! in English). I love watching cooking competitions, so this was the perfect movie for me!

A visit to Sydney should include a visit to the iconic Opera House. Bell Shakespeare’s Henry 5 was playing in the Playhouse so I was able to visit the Opera House and see a show too!
I’m not a big Shakespeare fan, but this updated production (hence the 5 instead of V) was fun to watch and easy to follow!

I went early and enjoyed a pre-show cocktail with a view of the Harbour Bridge, then came out to the beautifully lit icons of Sydney!

I also visited a few Markets, Bakeries, and Cafes during my time in Sydney. Click the image if you want to read more about these visits!
Getting around Sydney was fairly easy. During my visit I travelled on the ferry, train, tram, bus and Uber. It was simple to pay for the public transportion using a credit card to tap on/off.

I chose an Airbnb on Kurraba Point (across the bridge from the Sydney CBD. It had an amazing view!
It was a 10 minute walk to the Kurraba Point Wharf and a 10 minute ferry ride from there to Circular Quay. According to Google Maps, the walk was “mostly flat” – I guess they didn’t include the stairs to get down to the wharf or the hilly streets (if the up and down ended up at nearly the same elevation then maybe that makes it mostly flat?!)

The ferry ride over to the Sydney CBD was incredibly picturesque, better than any harbor tour!

I found Sydney very easy to navigate. Yes, sometimes I had to take a ferry, a tram, and a bus to get to where I wanted to go, but I could almost always get there! And I always had a great time doing it!
